A former Head of State , Gen . Abdulsalami Abubakar , has said budgetary allocation to defence management in the country needed to be increased in order to meet the current security challenges .
Abubakar said this on Friday while delivering a lecture at the National Defence College , Abuja , to mark the Silver Anniversary of the institution .
The lecture was titled , “ Capacity building for defence management : The role of National Defence College Nigeria .”
The former head of state noted that the current state of the economy and “ myriads of needs ” had affected defence allocations , urging the government to do more.
He said, “ The defence budget of any country usually comes under the scrutiny of politicians , taxpayers, the media , international organisations , friendly and unfriendly countries .
“ There is the need for some members of the political class to be exposed to the economics of defence . But how many people involved in defence budgeting in Nigeria are part of this course ?”
