The 17th edition of the Headies Awards is scheduled to be held today, Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. This marks a return to Lagos after two editions were held in the United States. The theme for this year’s award is “Back to Base”.
Leading the nominations for the 2025 Headies are artists like Ayra Starr, Tems, and Rema, who have been recognized in multiple categories.
The prestigious “Artiste of the Year” category includes prominent names such as Davido, Ayra Starr, Asake, Rema, Tems, and Burna Boy.
The Headies Awards will recognize excellence across various genres, including Afrobeats, R&B, and Hip-Hop.

This year also saw the introduction of the Headies Creative Summit, which was held on April 23rd and 24th, 2025, in Lagos.
In an unprecedented move, there will be two Headies Awards ceremonies in 2025.
The 17th edition is taking place today, and the 18th edition is slated for December 2025, also in Lagos. This decision was made to accommodate the initial postponement of the 17th edition and to recognize a broader range of musical talent within the year. The eligibility period for the 17th edition covers music released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024.
