Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beats Dune 2 To Set 2024 Box Office Record For WB

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has raced past Dune: Part Two for a major 2024 Warner Bros. record. Both movies are well-received sequels, with Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up to his 2021 sci-fi epic Dune earning a Certified Fresh 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It was followed six months later by the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice release, the legacy sequel to the 1988 horror-comedy with a Certified Fresh approval rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, which re-teamed director Tim Burton with stars Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder, is now in its seventh weekend and has enjoyed a major run at the box office.

Per The Numbers, as of Sunday morning, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is projected to close out its latest weekend in theaters with a cumulative domestic box office total of $283.97 million. Its three-day gross of $5 million has pushed it past the domestic total for Dune: Part Two, which earned $282.1 million in North America. This means that the Tim Burton movie is now officially the highest grossing Warner Bros. Pictures release of 2024 at the domestic box office.

What This Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Record Means For Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Is Dominating The Domestic Top 10

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice box office making it the highest-grossing domestic movie for Warner Bros. also means that it has climbed to No. 4 on the overall domestic chart for the year. All that is above it is one Universal release (Despicable Me 4) and two Disney movies (Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2). However, Warner Bros. is tied with Universal for having the most releases in the Top 10 thanks to Dune: Part Two at No. 5 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire at No. 7 at the time of writing.

In addition to
Despicable Me 4
at No. 3, Universal also has
Twisters
at No. 6 and
Kung Fu Panda 4
at No. 8.

Although their chart standing could fluctuate by the end of 2024, at the time of writing, this is the most titles that Warner Bros. has had on the Top 10 chart since 2009, when they had Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at No. 2, The Hangover at No. 6, and The Blind Side at No. 10. This is likely good news for the company, even in the wake of the cataclysmic box office failure of their recent DC outing Joker: Folie à Deux, which had one of the worst week 2 drops in history.

Our Take On Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s Box Office Success

It Could Remain One Of 2024’s Biggest Hits

Ultimately, Warner Bros. faces much competition from upcoming blockbusters, including Moana 2, Wicked, Gladiator 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While they still have further contenders for the Top 10, including The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, it seems likely that the chart configuration will look very different come New Year’s. However, strong Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reviews, its continued audience hold, and its ability to surpass even Dune: Part Two could maintain the Tim Burton title as their highest-grossing movie of the year.
