Deadpool & Wolverine Box Office Passes Barbie On All-Time Highest Grossing Domestic Chart With $636.3M Haul
Deadpool & Wolverine has finally passed Barbie on the domestic box office chart. The R-rated movie served as Deadpool’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he brought Wolverine with him. The movie has been shattering domestic and international records and has already become the highest-grossing R-rated hit of all time. Its $1.335 billion take is incredible enough, but its box office dominance has only continued for months after its July 26 debut.
According to a report by Variety, the movie has earned another record. After re-entering theaters over the weekend, the latest Marvel movie managed to earn enough to topple Barbie with its $679,000 take. It now sits at $636.3 million at the domestic box office, ushering it into the 12th spot on the domestic all-time box office chart. Barbie, which earned $636.238 million, now sits at 13th.
What Deadpool & Wolverine’s Record Means
Deadpool Continues To See Success
During its run, the Marvel blockbuster earned accolades for its ability to break norms and expectations, but it has also been breaking records. It earned the sixth-largest domestic opening of all time, maintains the fifth-highest box office take for a superhero movie, had the biggest opening for an R-rated movie, and secured the biggest domestic opening for any July release in history. After dethroning Barbie, it continues to climb the domestic charts. Check out the chart below, which showcases the top 15 domestic earners of all time:

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s box office numbers continue to excel in a year that has seen many disappointments, including Megalopolis, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Borderlands. It was also released after a poor showing by Marvel Studios in 2023, which saw the studio suffer massive losses from The Marvels‘ failure. It is a sign that the MCU still has life and can maintain its grip as a powerful name in Hollywood. Defeating Barbie, which saw immense success globally, is undoubtedly a positive sign for the studio.
Our Take On Deadpool Beating Barbie
Domestic Audiences Preferred Deadpool & Wolverine, Not International
The key element to remember about this massive accomplishment is that it is a domestic record. Despite moving higher on the domestic all-time chart, Deadpool 3 remains firmly behind Barbie internationally. Globally, the Margot Robbie hit earned $1.445 billion, a full $100 million ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite falling short domestically, it still saw extreme success worldwide. The Marvel movie did receive significant attention internationally, as it earned nearly $700 million outside the domestic sphere, but it is an important distinction. Marvel still has room to grow, if it hopes to defeat the $1.3 billion Barbie movie.
