Being A Graduate

Tick tock tick tock says the working clock
Time wait for no man says the clock
Within the twinkle of eyes so the time flies
When would we graduate so we thought
But now four years have gone so we say
It was just like yesterday so we exclaim
Thank God it has been done and dusted so we say;
No lecturer can threatening me again so we say
No more night classes in Adeyemi so we say
I am gonna sleep till I can’t sleep no more so we say
Bye bye to this wonderful department so we say
Infact I am now a certified linguist so we say
Mind your barbaric English while speaking to me
Because if you care to know, I am a graduate of English Language so we say.
In a few months to come I will become a corp member so we hope
Jubilation here and there so I saw.
Your parents, brothers, relatives even lovers are now
Looking on to you for money so they should
No more “dad they said we should pay 5k for Stylistics textbook
Mr. Dare gave us 40 novels to read and to register
The amount together is 15k.” As students so we say
Isn‘t that worthy of thinking?

Fellow graduates, labour market now we are
Moving up and down looking for reasonable job so we do
I can’t do this, I can’t do that because the money is small so we say
But others are on queue fighting for the same job so we see.
The graduation we prayed for has come but the bright future
We hoped for is yet to come says a friend.
By the grace of God it will come soon so I pray.
Buckle up your belt because you are now a graduate so I advice
You should give back what they have given you so you should
To whom much is given much is expected so they say.
