Nigerian hit-maker, Rema has bagged three nominations as MTV unveiled the nominees for the 2023 Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Tuesday.

 

US singer, Taylor Swift led with eight nominations. SZA secured six nominations while Doja Cat Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith earned five each.

 

A new category was also added called, ‘Best Afrobeats’ category, with Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, Fireboy DML ft Asake, Libianca, Rema, and Wizkid making the inaugural list.

 

Rema was also nominated for two other awards – ‘Best Collaboration’ and ‘Song of the Year’.

 

Ayra Starr, on the other hand, has two nominations in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category – for her single ‘Rush’ and the collaboration with Wizkid on ‘2 Sugar’.

 

The MTV VMAs will take place on September 12. Voting for the VMAs also opens today, with most categories closing on September 1.
