On February 19, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced that users of the two platforms will start paying monthly subscription fees of $11.99 to verify their accounts.

 

The popular Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing, has talked about the new verification service by Facebook and Instagram.

She gave her take on the announcement that Facebook and Instagram will begin a paid subscription service.

On February 19, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, announced that users of the two platforms will start paying monthly subscription fees of $11.99 to verify their accounts.

He said the new policy will first begin in Australia and New Zealand later in the week.

“This week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified — a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support,” he said.

“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99/month on the web or $14.99/month on iOS. We’ll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon.”

Reacting via her Instastory, Nkechi said the new payment plan will put all users on the same level — irrespective of their status in society.

The actress added that they will no longer be much difference between the rich and the poor on social media.

“Verification don turn 3 for 10 kobo… At least we all go Dey same level you no go Dey look me like say I get money Cus of verification…get Urs for just 11$…mark do this one walai this one sweet me,” she wrote.

“Like this so, if I no get 11$ monthly my badge is gone Wahalurrrrr!!!”
