Nigeria vs Sao Tome e Principe (AFCON 2023/24)

The leader of Nigeria is Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old started the 2023/24 season with three goals in three Serie A matches for Napoli. He is probably the big star in the squad, but Nigeria have big potential, especially in the attack, with players like Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, Gift Orban, and Victor Boniface.

The biggest Nigerian problem is the lack of quality goalkeepers. The head coach, Jose Peseiro, called up Francis Uzoho (Omonia), Adebayo Adeleye (Hapoel Jerusalem), and Olorunleke Ojo (Enyimba).


Sao Tome and Principe are Portuguese ex-colony, so it is not surprising that most of the players come from the Portuguese football system. Still, most of them are playing at lower levels of the football system in Portugal.

The most recognizable player is Luis Leal, who played for Arsenal Sarandi until July. Still, Leal is already 36 years old, and it is hard to expect something big from him against Nigeria.
